Dear colleagues, cavers and friends,
Following the recent elections for chairmen of the newly established Balkan speleological union commissions I would like to introduce myself as the new chairman of the Balkan commission for cave protection. Here I would like to thank to the people who gave their votes for me and to share a short bio of me with you.
I am working as a project manager in the Regional environmental center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC for CEE) – the Bulgarian branch, since July 2007. During my university education I was working as (in chronological order) project developer and leader in METAGEN Bulgaria Ltd (part of META Foundation – Germany in the field of the Bioinformatics (www.metalife.de). After was working as project manager and volunteer in different projects, related to the exploration and conservation of the Bulgarian underground environment, together with Sofia University, Bulgarian academy of science, Foundation “Modus Vivendi”, and National Park “Vitosha”. Since 2007 I am a member of the European Union’s Speleological Federation (FSUE) Cave protection commission.
As educational background, would like to mention my Bachelor degree in Molecular Biology – graduated in 2003, REC for CEE Training of young environmental leaders program – awarded as junior fellow in 2005, and my Master of Science in Genetics – graduated in 2006. I am using Russian and English, and Bulgarian as mother tongue.
Recently I am involved is several REC for CEE projects, but the most important and relevant here is the “Education for Natura 2000”, financed by the EEA granting program part of the financial mechanism of the European economical area, and the [Region] for kids educational toolkit. Also I was a manager of the past trans-border project for management of shared natural resources “Stara Planina”, between Bulgaria and Serbia, financed by the Swiss development and cooperation agency.
My recent interests are focused on environmental education programs, natural and environmental protection, ecotourism tools, sustainable transport and urban environment, GMOs and special vocational training programs for project development.
Even the above listed experience is too professional I would like to share with you that I am caving since 1998 as a member of the Speleological club “Helictit” in Bulgaria (www.helictit.info), and I hope together to be able to make the first steps in protecting caves and karst regions on the Balkans.
Looking forward to meet you at the round table on cave protection at July 15th in Romania, and please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time if you are interested in the cave protection issues and/or would like to work and be a member of the Balkan speleological union (BSU) cave protection commission (CPC)
