Before a summer full of caving explorations around Europe and overseas, we are happy to give you some speleological news from all over Europe.
First of all we want to warmly thank the SSI and the Sardinian organisers of the IVth EuroSpeleo Forum that took place in Urzulzei-Italy early May and that have gathered more than 1700 cavers including nearly 300 European cavers coming from outside of Italy. It was a great success in spite of the difficulty to organise such a big event on a Mediterranean island. The fascinating Sardinian caves and the traditional SpeleoBar have been very much appreciated by all those who made the trip there.
FSE' GAM AT HIDDEN EARTH :
The European Speleological Federation will be present during next British caving conference Hidden Earth 2009, end of September, with the FSE General Assembly Meeting (GAM) that will be held on the congress site on the Saturday 26th of September 2009 at 2pm. The gathering will be held from the 25th to the 27th of September in Churchill, England at 10km from Bristol international airport. It will be the opportunity to meet cavers from all over Europe. FSE ROUND TABLES ON INSPIRE & EXPEDITIONS :
On one hand, after numerous requests it is proposed to organise at Hidden Earth a Round Table on the subject of "Speleology & European Environmental GIS Standards INSPIRE". On the other hand, in the frame of the "International Caving Expeditions Database" project held by the FSE and the UIS, it is also proposed to have a round table around this project. Manuel Freire, project leader, will chair the meeting.
The persons interested to take part to one of these round-tables should send us an email to contact@eurospeleo.org before the 10th of July indicating the round-table name and the schedule they would prefer for the Round Table on September (Saturday 26th morning, Saturday 26th evening or Sunday 27th morning - choice1 & choice2).
ICS 2009 IN TEXAS :
With already more than 1250 pre-registered participants including nearly 400 non-US cavers, the next International Congress of Speleology 2009, end of July in Texas, is to be a very nice event where it will be possible to meet with speleologists from all over the world. The European Speleological Federation will be represented there by its president, secretary and treasurer. There will be a meeting between the members of the UIS Bureau and the FSE Bureau. If you have a proposal of a specific issue you would like to be dealt during this meeting, please send it to us at contact@eurospeleo.org before the 3rd of July.
Since, according to the tradition, next International Congress should be held on 2013 in Europe, we encourage every European cavers going to Texas to take contact with the FSE Bureau members in order to coordinate our efforts for that. And if, for this event, you want to wear a European' Caver T-shirt, please send us asap an email to contact@eurospeleo.org . The cost is 10 euros for short sleeves and 15 euros for long sleeves (+3 euros for postage).

FSE : THE LATEST NEWS
FSE counts now 23 full members with 2 new countries : Norway (full member) and Croatia (in finalization of membership).
We wish them a warm welcome among the big European speleological family and will ask them to bring nice beverages from their home country at Hidden Earth in order to commemorate their entry in the European Federation. The list of FSE members is available on last GAM report (point 7) on :

FSE CAVE PROTECTION :
The ECPC will hold its official meeting during the Balkan Cavers Camp 2009 from 24th-28th June in Olimpos, Antalia, Turkey. The meeting will be chaired by Viorel Lascu and Ioana Meleg from the ECPC board and Alexey Zhalov from the FSE Bureau. The agenda will include the following topics :
1. European Cave Day
2. EuroSpeleo Protection Label
3. Priorities regarding Cave protection in Balkans

EUROSPELEO FORUM 2010, 2011 & 2012 :
A call open to every European country has been made for the organisation of next EuroSpeleo Forums for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The EuroSpeleo Forum is a European label that can be given for one of your important national speleological event where you want to invite all the European cavers to gather and exchange in your country. The deadlines to apply are the following :

CONGRESSES IN EUROPE :

INCREASE OF EUROSPELEO PROJECTS FUND :
Since the beginning of 2009, the FSE has given the EuroSpeleo Projects (ESP) label to 6 new speleological projects that have gathered at least 5 European countries (expeditions, camps, workshops, symposiums, trainings, scientific experiments, publications, etc). A presentation of these projects will be made at Hidden Earth by the FSE Vice-Secretary, Alexey Zhalov.
A good news is that, following last European congress in France, the FFS has donated to the FSE for the ESP fund the amount of 8500 euros, resulting from the participants fees in Vercors and the positive balance. On its meeting of the 2nd of May 2009, the FSE Bureau has decided to increase the minimum grant level from 100 euros to 400 euros and to nearly double the general budget relative to the ESP funding. For the next EuroSpeleo Forums we encourage the organisers to do the same and to collect 1 euro per day and per participant (ie. 3 euros for 3 days) for the ESP fund.
Since the 1st of March 2009, every ESP labelled projects receive, over the FSE financial grant, 500 m of caving rope (with choice of diameter) from our FSE Official Partner : BEAL (their multilingual site is on www.BealPlanet.com). The first kilometers of caving ropes should arrive on the field on early July for the ESP projects. BEAL Ropes will send us soon some news about their activities. So, to summarize, if your speleological project includes at least 5 European countries, and you are interested by this European label, you can download the information and the application form on :

* The Warsaw Speleoclub Association invites every enthusiastic caves photographers to participate in the IVth Waldemar Burkacki International Cave Photography Contest. The photos should be submitted by the 30th of September 2009. Chers Amis Speleo, Dear Caving Friends,
Avant un été plein d'explorations spéléo en Europe et ailleurs, nous sommes heureux de vous donner quelques nouvelles en direct des quatre coins de l'Europe.
Tout d'abord nous souhaitons remercier chaleureusement la SSI et les organisateurs sardes du IVème EuroSpeleo Forum qui s'est tenu à Urzulei-Italie début mai et qui a rassemblé plus de 1700 spéléos dont près de 300 spéléos européens venus d'autres pays. Ce fut un grand succès malgré la difficulté d'organiser un tel évènement sur une île méditerranéenne. Les cavités fascinantes de Sardaigne et le traditionnel SpeleoBar ont été très appréciés par tous ceux qui ont fait le déplacement.
AG FSE A HIDDEN EARTH :
La Fédération Spéléologique Européenne sera présente durant le prochain congrès britannique Hidden Earth 2009, fin septembre, avec l'Assemblée Générale (AG) FSE qui s'ouvrira sur le site du congrès le samedi 26 septembre 2009 à 14h. Le rassemblement se tiendra lui, du 25 au 27 septembre à Churchill, Angleterre, à 10km de l'aéroport international de Bristol. Ce sera une opportunité pour rencontrer les spéléos de toute l'Europe. TABLES RONDES FSE SUR INSPIRE & LES EXPEDITIONS :
Suite à de nombreuses demandes, il est proposé d'une part que soit organisées à Hidden Earth une table ronde sur le sujet suivant : "Spéléologie & Normes Européennes Environmentales SIG INSPIRE". D'autre dans le cadre du projet "ICE - Base de données internationale d'expéditions spéléologiques" mené par la FSE et l'UIS, il est aussi proposé d'avoir une table-ronde autour de ce projet. Manuel Freire, project leader, modérera cette réunion.
Les personnes intéressées pour prendre part à l'une des ces tables rondes doivent nous envoyer un mail à contact@eurospeleo.org d'ici le 10 juillet en indiquant le nom de la table ronde et les créneaux horaires préférés (samedi 26 matin, samedi 26 soir ou dimanche 27 matin - choix 1 et choix 2).
CIS 2009 AU TEXAS :
Avec déjà plus de 1250 participants pré-inscrits, incluant près de 400 spéléos non-américains, le prochain Congrès International de Spéléologie 2009, fin juillet au Texas, s'annonce d'ors et déjà comme un évènement d'importance où il sera possible de rencontrer des spéléologues du monde entier. La Fédération Spéléologique Européenne y sera représentée par ses président, secrétaire et trésorier. Il y aura une réunion entre les membres du Bureau UIS et du Bureau FSE. Si vous avez une proposition de sujet spécifique que vous souhaitez voir abordé durant cette réunion, merci de nous l'envoyer à contact@eurospeleo.org d'ici le 3 juillet.
Vu que d'après la tradition, le prochain congrès international devrait se tenir en 2013 en Europe, nous encourageons tous les spéléos européens allant au Texas de prendre contact avec les membres du Bureau FSE afin de coordonner les efforts pour cela. Et si, pour cet évènement, cela vous dit de porter un T-shirt Spéléo-Européen (European' Caver), merci de nous envoyer rapidement un email à contact@eurospeleo.org . Le coût est de 10 euros pour les manches longues et de 15 euros pour les manches courtes (+3 euros de frais d'envoi).

FSE : LES DERNIERES NOUVELLES
La FSE compte désormais 23 membres dont 2 nouveaux pays : la Norvège (membre) et la Croatie (en cours d'adhésion).
Nous leur souhaitons une chaleureuse bienvenue parmi la grande famille spéléo européenne et leur demandons d'amener des boissons traditionnelles de leur pays à Hidden Earth afin de commémorer leur entrée à la fédération européenne. AUGMENTATION DU FOND EUROSPELEO PROJECTS :
Depuis le début de l'année, la FSE a délivré le label EuroSpeleo Projects (ESP) à 6 nouveaux projets spéléos qui ont rassemblé au moins 5 pays européens (expéditions, camps, ateliers, colloques, stages, expériences scientifiques, publications, etc). Une présentation de ces projets sera réalisée à Hidden Earth par le Vice-Secrétaire FSE, Alexey Zhalov.
Une bonne nouvelle est que, suite au dernier congrès européen en France, la FFS a fait la donation à la FSE pour le fond ESP, de la somme de 8500 euros, résultant des entrées des participants et d'un bilan positif. Lors de sa réunion du 2 mai 2009, le Bureau FSE a décidé d'augmenter le montant minimum des financements ESP de 100 à 400 euros et de doubler le budget général relatif aux projets ESP. Pour les prochains EuroSpeleo Forums nous encourageons les organisateurs à faire de même et à collecter 1 euro par participant et par jour (cad. 3 euros pour 3 jours) pour le fond ESP.
Depuis le 1er mars 2009, chaque projet labellisé ESP reçoit, en plus de l'aide financière FSE, 500 m de corde spéléo (diamètre au choix) de la part de notre Partenaire Officiel FSE : les Cordes BEAL (leur site multilingue est sur : www.BealPlanet.com ). Les premiers kilomètres de corde spéléo devrait arriver sur le terrain début juillet pour les projets ESP. Les Cordes BEAL nous enverrons bientôt des nouvelles de leur activité.
